Lady CEOs
On The Move
Judge Leah Ward Sears was mentioned as a
possible replacement for Supreme Court
Justice David H. Souter, but President
Obama ultimately chose Judge Sonia
Sotomayor.

Leah Ward Sears is the Chief Justice of the
Georgia Supreme Court. She has served on
the court since 1992 when she first appointed
by former governor Zell Miller, to sit on the
Supreme Court of Georgia, and in June
2005, Sears became the court's chief justice.

"Being the first was always a little difficult,"
Sears said. "I had to fight to be accepted, I
didn't do it by having a chip on my shoulder;
I just worked hard."
