Which Tax Breaks are Expiring? In the spring of this year, the government passed a stimulus bill to kick start consumer spending, bolster the housing market, create jobs and more or less get the economy back on its feet. CEO On The Cover |
If you are going to work for a new company and will have a 401(k) plan there, you can roll your former company's 401(k) money into your new employer's plan. As with a rollover to an IRA, if you request a direct rollover, you won't have to pay taxes until you withdraw money from the account. You can take a cash distribution for the full amount of your balance, but, of course, you'll pay income tax on the money you receive. In addition, if you are under age 59 1/2, you may be subject to a 10 percent federal income tax penalty. And because you are receiving the money, 20 percent of your balance will be automatically withheld. |

FIVE BASIC STEPS TO FINANCIAL SECURITY IN ANY ECONOMY |
No one is left without feeling the affects of the current economy. Start building your financial security by following the five basic steps below. 1. Begin an emergency cash fund -- Create a savings account and resolve to pay yourself first by setting aside 5 to 10 percent of your salary each month. 2. Pay down your credit cards -- Credit card debt is the No. 1 obstacle to a secure financial future, and knowing your credit score is essential. Check it once a year. 3. Create a financial plan using life insurance as the foundation -- An insufficient life insurance plan can expose your family to significant financial risks. To learn more about life insurance, call (866) 331-3078 and speak with a life insurance specialist with SBLI USA, a company that specializes in life insurance policies. Or, go to www.sbliusa.com to get a free, no-obligation quote. |

Refreshed and alert driving diffusion A shorter, thriftier trip is likely to be by car. The inevitable rush to make the most of the limited time away after a tiring work week can create fatigue, so don't make it a dangerous driving situation.
